website hardware upgraded
This weekend I've swapped in a Motorola Powerstack for the old PMac 7100.
It's running well, so it's a keeper. Previously the site was running on a PowerMac 7100/66 and some (really) old AVID drives, providing a whopping 66MHz of pure powerPC 601 juice. The Motorola PowerStack, Mot's ill-concieved foray into Windoze NT, now motivates the site, with a faster hard drive and a 604e-133MHz powerPC processor, as well as over twice as much RAM (64MB!). As you can see, we spare no expense around here :) But it is a very solidly built, server-worthy machine which should provide greater reliability. Fortunately for me, YellowDog Linux (YDL) 2.0 booted on both machines, making the transition relatively painless.
