update from the AES on the show

New York -- the AES has issued the following letter to members:
Dear AES Member
We are pleased to present the rescheduled 111th Convention in New York City at the Jacob Javits Convention Center, November 30 - December 3, where we can look forward to a great event.
The largest exhibit of professional audio equipment in the world with 300 manufacturers will give you a chance to see the latest in today's cutting edge audio technology and network with thousands of today's leading audio professionals.
In addition there will be:
+ The Keynote Speech at the Opening Ceremonies given by Dr Floyd Toole, on the subject "Audio Engineering - Science in the Service of Art"
+ A spectacular lineup of technical sessions and special events
+ Papers sessions emphasizing the increasingly significant topic of digital audio
+ Interactive workshops featuring new sessions on Audio for Information Appliances, Audio for Games and Small Room Acoustics
+ History of Signal Processing Event with presentations by Bishnu Atal, Barry Blesser, Emil Torick and Ray Dolby
+ The Richard C Heyser Lecture to be given by Dr Manfred Schroeder
+ When Vinyl Ruled Exhibit -- historical exhibit, demonstrations, tutorials and guest presentations by some of the industry's top professionals
+ NARAS Grammy Recording Soundtable and SPARS Business Panel
+ Dynamic program of student activities including an educational fair, recording competition, educator's forum and mentoring program and many other events.
But while the convention is obviously the reason for coming to New York, let us think for a moment about the social side of a convention. The new dates afford visitors a look at New York that many people have never seen. The Rockefeller Center Tree lighting will be on November 28. This is an event that you may want to bring your family to, not to mention the Christmas show at Radio City Music Hall and ice skating at Rockefeller Center. The city in general, but Fifth Avenue in particular is spectacular at this time of year. The holiday windows at Saks, Lord and Taylor, Bloomingdales, Barneys, Bergdorf Goodman, FAO Schwartz, Macys - the list is endless, but each creates a wonderland that any adult or child will stare at in amazement! If you have never seen New York at this time, you have missed something incredible. There are some great travel bargains available on the market, so why not take advantage of them now.
We on the AES 111th Convention Committee look forward to sharing New York and the Convention with you. We hope that the enthusiasm at this magical time in New York is an experience that you will never forget.
